No. 3 Bruins Shutout Ducks, 2-0

Oct. 26, 2001

EUGENE, Ore.- No. 3 UCLA scored two goals in the first 15 minutes and held on to defeat the Oregon women's soccer team 2-0 Friday afternoon at Pape Field. UCLA remained perfect in the conference at 4-0-0 and improved to 13-1-0 overall, while Oregon dropped to 1-4-0 in the Pac-10 and 7-6-1 overall.

Sarah-Gayle Swanson got the Bruins on the scoreboard in the fifth minute on an attempt from 18 yards out that Oregon goalkeeper Sarah Peters let go by because she thought the shot was going to be wide of the net. Swanson's shot bounced twice before sneaking into the left corner to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead.

Ten minutes later, Breana Boling broke behind the Oregon defense and collected a perfectly-timed pass from Whitney Jones and sent a line drive into the net from seven yards.

Bruin freshman goalkeeper Sarah Lombardo made her first start of the season Friday before being relieved by senior CiCi Peterson.

UCLA returns to the field on Sunday to take on Oregon State in Corvallis.
