Jones Scores 20 Points in Scrimmage

EUGENE, Ore. -- Senior Frederick Jones scored 20 points as his team won three times and senior Mark Michaelis impressed with 10 rebounds and eight points in a men's basketball scrimmage Saturday at McArthur Court.

The team played three 20 minute periods and Jones' team won each session. Players were divided up differently for each session.

In the first, Jones' 13 points keyed a 26-17 win for the green team. Sophomore Luke Ridnour added six points, two assists and two steals for the green. Sophomore Luke Jackson had seven points in a losing effort.

In period two, Jackson scored eight points, while senior Chris Christofferson added seven as the green cruised, 24-11. Robert Johnson, a junior transfer from San Francisco, had a game-high six rebounds.

Sophomore James Davis got hot in the final period, scoring 11 points and hitting all four field goal attempts (including three-of-three from three-point land) to lead the white team to a 31-24 decision. Ridnour had seven points and Jackson added six for the losing green team.

Overall, Jackson was the leading scorer with 21 points, followed by Jones with 20, Ridnour and Davis with 16 and senior Ben Lindquist with 10.

Michaelis paced all rebounders with 10, followed by Johnson with nine, Jackson with eight and Christoffersen and junior Brian Helquist with six each.

Senior Anthony Lever (broken hand) and freshman Ian Crosswhite (ankle) are still recovering from off-season injuries and did not play.

The men have their first exhibition game at 7 p.m. on Nov. 6 against Basketball Travelers at McArthur Court.
