Veress still alive and kicking at Omni Hotels/ITA Northern California Regional Championship

Santa Clara - Pac-10 Freshman of the Year Balazs Veress defeated ninth-seed Sharif Zaher of Sacramento by a 6-4, 7-5 margin to advance to the quarterfinals at the Omni Hotels/ITA Northern California Regional Championships.
Veress also teamed with newcomer Chase Exon to advance to the doubles quarterfinals.
Two other Cal men advanced to the Round of 16 along with Veress. Wayne Wong was defeated by the No. 1 seeded Travis Parrot of Portland, and newcomer Dean Wallace dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to the No. 5 seeded Scott Lipsky of Stanford.
In the singles consolation bracket, Exon and freshman Jeff King advanced to the Round of 16. Exon went down to the wire against Quinn Borchard of Portland, but ultimately won, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8. King advanced by defeating Mike Bruggenmen of Santa Clara on his home court by a tight 3-6, 6-3, 10-2 margin.
