Eight Bruin Swimmers to Compete at Southern Methodist University Classic

Nov. 2, 2001

In Bruin swimming action this weekend, Coach Cyndi Gallagher will take a team of eight swimmers and one diver to the Southern Methodist University Classic, held in Dallas, TX.

The two-day competition will begin Friday at 7:30 PM CT and will conclude Saturday evening. The field will include Auburn, SMU, Miami (FL), Rice and Pacific. Auburn, SMU, Miami and Rice were all top-15 finishers at the 2001 NCAA Championships.

The Bruin squad will consist of Cathy Coler, Elvira Fischer, Jackie Lobdell, Sara Platzer, Malin Svahnstrom, Katie Winkelhaus, Erin Zehntner and diver Heidi Prosser. 'It was hard to choose eight swimmers,' said Gallagher. 'For a meet like this, you have to choose your eight most versatile swimmers. We're fired up and looking forward to some good races.'
