No. 23 Women's Soccer Edges Arizona, 2-1, in OT

TUSCON, Ariz. - All-American forward Laura Schott returned to No. 23 California's lineup to score both goals in the Golden Bears, 2-1, overtime victory over Arizona Friday at Murphey Stadium. Cal improved to 11-5-1 (3-3 Pac-10), while Arizona fell to 5-10-1 (2-5).
Schott, a Hermann Trophy and M.A.C. nominee for collegiate player of the year honors, missed Cal's last three halves of soccer due to concussion-related symptoms. She suffered the concussion Oct. 19 in a collision with Washington goalkeeper Hope Solo. Schott entered the week leading the Pac-10 with 27 points and 12 goals and added four points and two goals to those totals tonight.
Arizona led 1-0 at the half on a goal by Liz Bartlett. Cal goalkeeper Mallory Moser deflected Vanesha Bailey's initial shot, but Bartlett knocked in the rebound.
After the break, Schott and midfielder Ashley Valenzuela were determined to help their team end a three-game losing streak. The Bears tied the game at 1-1 in the 61st minute. when Valenzuela sent a long serve over the Wildcat defense to Schott, who scored from the right side about 10 yards out.
The teams went into the overtime tied 1-1 on the scoreboard, and they were tied in shot attempts as well, 14-14.
Cal only took two shots in the overtime, but the second one proved fatal for the Cats. Valenzuela set up the final goal by pushing the ball forward up the left side, where Schott sent the winning goal over Arizona goalkeeper Shannon Monti in the 97th minute.
Monti finished the game with seven saves, while Moser matched her career high of six.
The Bears welcome back central midfielder Kim Yokers for their next game at Arizona State, Sunday, at 11:30 a.m. PT. Yokers had to sit out tonight's game after receiving her fifth yellow card in Cal's last game against Stanford. The Sun Devils defeated second-ranked Stanford, 1-0, in overtime tonight.
