Nicole Powell Named To Preseason All-Pac-10 Women's Basketball Team

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Stanford University sophomore Nicole Powell (Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe HS) has been named to the 2001-02 Preseason All-Pacific-10 Conference Women's Basketball Team. Powell, who is a pre-season candidate for the Naismith Award, was the Pac-10's Freshman of the Year last season.
Powell averaged 14.1 points and 8.5 rebounds a year ago as the Cardinal captured its 10th Pac-10 title. She also ranked among the Pac-10 leaders in seven out of a possible 12 categories: rebounding (1st), defensive rebounding (1st), assists (4th), assist/turnover ratio (6th), 3-point percentage (6th), free throw percentage (9th) and scoring (10th).
The Cardinal has also been picked as the team to beat in the Pac-10 Preseason Media Poll. Stanford received 19 first place votes and 206 points, to finish well ahead of Arizona State's two first place votes and 164 points. Last month, Stanford was the unanimous choice to win the conference in the Preseason Coaches Poll.
