No. 5 UCLA Downs Washington St., 3-1 in 2001 Home Finale

Nov. 4, 2001

Los Angeles - Playing in their final regular-season home game, three Bruin seniors stole the show Sunday, scoring all three Bruin goals as the No. 5 UCLA women's soccer team registered a 3-1 win over Washington State at Drake Stadium. With the victory, UCLA runs its home unbeaten streak to 23 matches, making it the third-straight season the Bruins have went undefeated at home.

Senior forward Staci Duncan got things started for UCLA as she converted on a one-on-one with WSU goalkeeper Lindsey Jorgensen in just the eighth minute of the match. With that goal, Duncan moved into a tie for second place all-time with Tracey Milburn at UCLA in goals scored with 33.

Senior forward Mary-Frances Monroe got things started as she put the Bruins ahead 2-0 in the 19th minute of the match on a hard blast from about 25 yards out. Stephanie Rigamat was credited with the assist.

Just 40 seconds later, UCLA struck again as Rigamat received a through ball from Sarah-Gayle Swanson and converted on a breakaway to make the score 3-0.

Washington State got on the board at the 50:27 mark when Kim Morgan put in a loose ball off a mishandled corner kick by the Bruin defense.

With the victory, UCLA improves to 15-2 overall and 6-1 in Pac-10 play. Washington State falls to 7-8 overall and 2-5 in conference action.

In addition to Monroe, Rigamat and Duncan, six other Bruin seniors were honored before the game as part of Senior Day. The other Bruins were: Brittany Whalen, Bethany Bogart, Krista Boling, Breana Boling, Lauren Emblem and CiCi Peterson.

UCLA rounds out the 2001 regular season in the Bay Area next weekend. The Bruins will face No. 23 Cal this Friday in Berkeley at 2:30 p.m. and No. 2 Stanford on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Bruins need to win both matches to have a shot at winning the 2001 Pac-10 title and to possibly earn a top-four seed in the NCAA Tournament.
