Opening Statement
'I appreciate you guys coming today, and our congratulations go out to the Diamondbacks for their big win last night.'

On the loss to Oregon
'As far as the Oregon game goes, obviously we did not play well enough to beat a team like Oregon. I know from experience that that program was not built overnight. What you are seeing over the last two years is the accumulation of five or six years of recruiting and five or six years of a solid program under Mike Bellotti. The fan support and everything surrounding that program, it's tough to play your best up there and we did not do that. My hat's off to Oregon for a well played game.'

'Even though we are not playing as well as we need to play, we do have some individuals and some groups who are continuing to play very well. Our two offensive tackles, Levi Jones and Kyle Kosier, played very well. Jason Shivers, our free safety, had 15 tackles, I think that's 32 tackles in the last two weeks. Riccardo Stewart played a lot at strong safety. He was able to play more and did a nice job.'

'For the fourth week in a row, our special teams played their best game of the season. That's a great sign. Our coverage teams are much better, (Nick) Murphy kicked the ball very well. We had a successful fake punt so we're doing some nice things on special teams.'

On this week's game with Washington State
'As far as Washington State goes, a totally different type of quarterback, very successful in his own right but very different from Joey Harrington. Joey is more of a classic drop back guy. What makes (Jason) Gesser so tough is that he's hard to sack. Nobody has been able to get him down, even if they have a clean shot at him. His escapability and being able to make plays that break down make him tough to stop.'

'The other thing that has really helped Washington State turn it around this year is that they've gone to an attack style defense. Last year they were more of a bend but don't break defense, this year through eight games they have 30 takeaways and 74 tackles for loss. That's huge, and it really shows up in the way they play.'

'It is homecoming, we're home for two in a row, we're looking forward to that and to doing our part to make homecoming successful.'

'Jeff (Krohn) is cleared and ready to go. He ran the team yesterday, and right now everything's full speed ahead.'

Freshman Jason Shivers Captain This Week
'We've always felt as a coaching staff that we should reward guys who are playing well and showing leadership on the field regardless of class. It's a team game and Jason is doing a great job in all those areas. Our philosophy as a staff is just because a guy has been playing on the team for four years doesn't mean he should take a turn as being a captain. It just so happens that Jason is up this week.'

Looking ahead to next year?
'If I ever start talking about next year before this year is over I hope someone will come up here and smack me in the mouth, because that's not right or fair for your seniors. We are going to play our best players.'
