Men's Golfers Sixth After First Round in the Desert

The UCLA men's golf team is sixth after the first round in The Prestige, hosted by UC Davis and Stanford at Desert Willow Golf Course in Palm Desert.

The Bruins posted a team score Monday of 283, five-under par, and trail first place Kansas and UC Davis by five shots. Washington is second at 280, followed by Colorado at 281 and TCU at 282.

Several teams were still on the course playing the second round when darkness halted play.

Leading the way for the Bruins were sophomore John Merrick and junior Sang- Eun Ji, who each fired four-under par scores of 68 and were tied for fifth individually. Senior Parker McLachlin posted a 73, one-over par and sophomore Roy Moon shot a 74. Steve Conway was tied for 65th at 75.

Travis Hurst of Kansas was the leader in the clubhouse at eight-under par 64, follwed by Dustin Bray of North Carolina at 65. Two players were tied for third at 67.

The third round will begin immediately after the second round is completed Tuesday morning.
