Cal Volleyball Loses to No. 11 Ranked UCLA, 3-0

BERKELEY, CA - The University of California women's volleyball team (8-14, 3-11) lost to No. 11 ranked UCLA (14-6, 9-4), 3-0 (30-24, 30-25, 30-21) Thursday night at Haas Pavilion. The Bears, who have never defeated the Bruins in women's volleyball (0-42) were led by eight kills apiece by junior Leah Young, and sophomores Gabrielle Abernathy and Jessica Zatica. Zatica also led Cal with a team-high 15 digs and had a .350 hitting percentage. Sophomore Ashleigh Turner added 13 digs.

UCLA was paced by junior Lauren Fendrick's 15 kills and senior setter Erika Selsor had 50 assists. The Bruins out hit the Bears, .303-.168.

Even though Cal did not win a game in the match, the Bears were competitive against UCLA. Cal played its best in game two, taking a 20-17 lead, only to see the Bruins tie the contest 22-22 and then outscore the Bears, 8-3, to win 30-25.

Cal will next host No. 5 ranked USC, Friday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. at Haas Pavilion.
