Men's Hoops In Exhibition Action On Friday
Nov. 8, 2001
The USC men's basketball team, ranked No. 20 and 24 in the Preseason AP and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Top 25 Polls, respectively, concludes exhibition play on Friday against EA Sports at the Lyon Center at 7 p.m.
The Trojans came from behind to win their first exhibition, a 101-91 overtime win over L.A. City Stars on Nov. 4. Sophomore guard Desmon Farmer had a game-high 23 points and senior forward Sam Clancy had 22 in the win.
The Trojans played without senior point guard Brandon Granville in the first exhibition, but will get him back on Friday. The fourth-year starting point guard missed the game for precautionary reasons after suffering an injury to his mouth in practice.
USC will be playing without Clancy and senior forward David Bluthenthal, who have been benched for breaking team rules. It is a one-game suspension for both.
EA Sports was 2-4 entering its game at New Mexico on Thursday. The team, which has defeated Air Force and BYU this week, features former Trojan Adam Spanich (1998-99) as well as a handful of players that have played against USC. Among that group is former Utah State guard Bernard Rock, former Pepperdine forward David Lalazarian, former Kansas forward Nick Bradford and former Arizona forward Justin Wessel.
The Trojans open the regular season with their non-conference opener against Wyoming in the first round of the Preseason NIT on Tuesday (Nov. 13) at the Sports Arena at 6 p.m.
