Walker Upset at National Team Indoors

Dallas, TX - UCLA's Marcin Matkowski won his first-round singles match, then teamed with Jean-Julien Rojer to win a first-round doubles match Thursday at the Omni Hotels National Indoor Tennis Championships in Dallas, Texas.

Matkowski started the day with a straight-set victory over Michael Yani of Duke, 6-4, 6-3. He will take on Minnesota's Harsh Mankad in Friday's round of 16.Hotels National Indoor Tennis Championships in Dallas, Texas.

In doubles, top-seeded Matkowski and Rojer defeated Florian Marquardt and Pedro Nieto of Virginia Commonwealth, 8-6 in the first round. They were upset by Casey Smith and Javier Taborga of Notre Dame, 8-6 in Thursday evening's quarterfinals.Hotels National Indoor Tennis Championships in Dallas, Texas.

On the women's side, fourth-seeded Sara Walker was upset in her first-round singles match, falling to Alice Pirsu of Pennsylvania, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. She will play in the consolation singles round on Friday.

In doubles, Walker and Petya Marinova took an 8-1 victory over Lynsie Jones and Nadia Vaughan of SMU in the first round. In the quarterfinals, also on Thursday, they defeated Duke's Julie DeRoo/Kelly McCain, 8-3.
