Lauren Kalvaria Falls In Singles Final of ITA National Indoors

FARMERS BRANCH, Tex. - Stanford senior Lauren Kalvaria (Indialantic, Fla.) dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Wake Forest's Bea Bielik in the singles final of the Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Championships on Sunday morning at the Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Tex.
Bielik, the first Wake Forest player to reach the final at this tournament and the No. 3 seed, needed just 66 minutes to beat Kalvaria in today's final. The Stanford netter was the tournament's No. 6 seed, and defeated Northwestern's Marine Piriou 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 on Saturday evening to advance to today's final. Kalvaria, playing in her second national singles final, was bidding to become the fifth straight Stanford player to win the Indoor singles title.
Kalvaria and senior teammate Gabriela Lastra (Reno, Nev.) captured the women's doubles championship yesterday, downing Wake Forest's Bielik and Janet Bergman 8-4 to claim the title.
The Cardinal are idle until Friday, Nov. 23, when they square off against Hawaii on the road at 3 p.m.
