BEARS TRAVEL TO NO. 4 ARIZONA AND ARIZONA STATE: The California women's volleyball team (8-15, 3-12 in Pac-10) travels to the Arizona schools this weekend, facing No. 4 ranked Arizona, Friday, Nov. 16 and Arizona State, Saturday, Nov. 17. Cal will have a challenge against the Wildcats, who defeated the Bears, 3-1, Oct. 8 in Haas Pavilion. Arizona is on a 10-match winning streak, going undefeated since defeating Cal in early October. The Bears have yet to play Arizona State this season due to the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11 (match was scheduled for Sept. 14 in Berkeley). Cal will face the Sun Devils in Tempe this weekend and then conclude the 2001 season facing ASU Sunday, Nov. 25 at 3 p.m. at Haas Pavilion.

LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS: The Bears, who have never defeated UCLA in women's volleyball (0-42), fell to the No. 12 ranked Bruins, 3-0, Nov. 8. Cal was led by eight kills apiece from junior Leah Young, and sophomores Gabrielle Abernathy and Jessica Zatica. Zatica also led Cal with a team-high 15 digs and had a .350 hitting percentage. Sophomore Ashleigh Turner added 13 digs. The Bears haven't defeated USC since 1991 and fell to the No. 5 ranked Trojans, 3-0, Nov. 9. Cal was led by 12 kills by junior middle blocker Reena Pardiwala and a career-high 11 kills by Zatica. Pardiwala also had an impressive .500 hitting percentage (12 kills, two errors, 20 attempts). As a team, Cal is fifth in the conference in service aces with 123 aces, 1.58 service aces per game. Senior setter/outside hitter Candace McNamee is now third among active Pac-10 players for career assists (3,419).

BEAR NOTABLES: McNamee leads the Bears with 755 assists and 25 service aces and is seventh in the Pac-10 in assists per game (9.81) and eighth in service aces per game (.32). McNamee has had three triple-doubles in her career and is third on the Cal all-time assist list (3419) and 10th on the career service ace list (91). Pardiwala leads the Bears with 210 digs and is second on the team with a .303 hitting percentage, 24 service aces and 48 total blocks. Last season she broke a school record with .298 single-season hitting percentage and is currently second on the school's career hitting percentage list (.269). Young is second on the team in kills (197) and is third on the team in kills per game (.253). She led the Bears and had a career-high 19 kills and 12 digs in Cal's Oct. 23, 3-2, upset of No. 19 ranked Santa Clara. Freshman middle blocker Camille Leffall leads the Bears with a .321 hitting percentage (113 kills, 37 errors, 237 attempts) and 71 total blocks. Leffall is second among Pac-10 freshmen with her .321 hitting percentage. She tied a Cal school record with 11 total blocks (three block solos, eight block assists) in the Bears Oct. 23 upset of No. 19 ranked Santa Clara.

HEAD COACH RICH FELLER: Rich Feller (34-45 at Cal, career 333-212, .611) is in his third season as the head coach of Cal's women's volleyball program. Feller came to Cal after a stint as an assistant coach on the USA National Team and 14 years as head coach at Colorado State (1983-96) where he led the Rams to eight NCAA Tournament appearances and 12 Top 25 national rankings. Feller earned his 300th career victory when the Bears defeated Denver, 3-1, Sept. 4, 1999.

CAL VS. THE OPPONENTS: The Bears have a 6-27 all-time record against No. 4 ranked Arizona (18-3, 13-3), last defeating the Wildcats, 3-0, Oct. 27, 1995 in Tucson, AZ. Arizona is led by 6-2 junior outside hitter Lisa Rutledge (310 kills, .287 hitting percentage). Cal has a 10-24 all-time record against Arizona State (8-14, 3-11). Last season the Bears won 3-1 Sept. 29 at ASU and lost, 3-0, Oct. 28 at Cal. ASU is led by 6-0 senior outside hitter Jami Coughlin (309 kills, 329 digs). Sun Devil head coach, Patti Snyder-Park, was an assistant at Cal from 1984-88.
