Men's Soccer Standout Matt Taylor Earns Player Of The Week Honors

Walnut Creek, Calif. - UCLA sophomore forward Matt Taylor earned multiple honors this week, being namedthe Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Nov. 5-11, earning UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week acclaim and being selected to Soccer America's Team of the Week.
Taylor, from Irvine, Calif., scored two goals and recorded one assist asUCLA closed out the regular season with wins over Oregon State andNo. 10 Washington last week. In the 1-0 victory over the Beavers, Taylornetted the game's lone goal for his second game-winner on the year.Against the Huskies, he keyed the Bruins' two comebacks. Taylor assistedon the goal that tied the game at 1-1 in the first half. He then scoredon a bicycle kick with 1:26 left to play, sending the match intoovertime. UCLA would win, 3-2 in OT.
Taylor's goals were his fourth and fifth of the season. He now rankssecond on the team in scoring, with five goals and 12 points.
UCLA (10-6-4 overall, 5-2-1 Pac-10), which concluded regular-season playlast weekend, must await its fate in the Pac-10 title race. Stanford(14-4-1, 4-1-1) has two matches remaining on its schedule, and with somehelp from the Cardinal's opponents, UCLA could clinch at least a share ofthe Pac-10 title.
This is the first weekly honor for Taylor and UCLA's eighth Pac-10 Player of theWeek honor all-time.
