UCLA Defeats Global Sports 86-60

UCLA defeated Global Sports 86-60 in an exhibition game on Wednesday (Nov. 14) before 5,116 in Pauley Pavilion. It was UCLA's final exhibition tuneup before the start of the regular season on Monday (Nov. 19) at the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational hosted by Chaminade University.
UCLA had five players in double figures against Global Sports, led by senior forward Matt Barnes' 18 points. Also scoring in double figures were - senior guard Billy Knight, 16 points, junior forward Jason Kapono, 13 points, senior center Dan Gadzuric, 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds and freshman forward Andre Patterson, 10 points. The Bruins led 45-25 at halftime.
Bruin freshman guard Cedric Bozeman, slated to fill Earl Watson's starting point guard position, did not play against Global Sports. In UCLA's 102-77 exhibition win over EA Sports on Nov. 8 in Pauley, Bozeman bruised his tailbone and missed some of this week's practice. He was held out of the Global contest as a precautionary move.Global Sports was led by Ramel Lloyd's 22 points.
UCLA will now open the 2001-02 regular-season next week at the Maui Invitational, held Nov. 19-21 at the Lahaina Civic Center. Along with the Bruins, also competing will be defending NCAA Champion Duke, nationally-rated Kansas, South Carolina, Seton Hall, Ball State, Houston and host Chaminade.
The Bruins' first round game on Monday, Nov. 19 is against Houston. Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m. PST. The game will be televised on ESPN2 and can be heard on Fox Sports AM 1150 with Chris Roberts and Bob Myers.
