Nov. 16, 2001
STANFORD, Calif. - Kelly Husted (Sarasota, Fla.) and Stephanie Lue (Houston, Tex.) have signed letters of intent to study and compete at Stanford University next year, announced head women's golf coach Caroline O' Connor today.
'Kelly and Stephanie are two of the hardest working, most focused and motivated junior golfers that I have seen,' said O'Connor. 'We are very excited that they have chosen to be a part of an already talented team. They will bring a wealth of national and international experience with them to Stanford next year.'
Husted was ranked 2nd nationally in the Golf Week/Titleist Junior Golf Rankings (#1 in class of 2002). She is a two-time American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) All-American as well as a two-time AJGA Compaq Scholastic All-American (awarded to only 10 players each year). Kelly was the runner-up in the Florida High School State Championship this year after finishing third in her junior year. She has achieved numerous top-three finishes in national and international events.
Lue finished 3rd in the 2001 Texas High School Class 5A State Championships. She posted over 15 top-five finishes in state and national tournaments over the past two years, highlighted by a 4th place finish at the AJGA Taylor Made-Adidas. Stephanie was one of 10 juniors named to the AJGA Compaq Scholastic All-American team.
