No. 9 Women's Basketball Try to Capture Stanford Invitational

Stanford, Calif. - Hoping for another impressive performance from point guard Nicole Powell,Stanford tries to win its own tournament as it plays UC Santa Barbara in thechampionship game of the Stanford Invitational.
Powell played a major role in advancing the ninth-ranked Cardinal (1-0) tothe championship game, recording just the fourth triple-double in schoolhistory in Friday's 87-72 win over Indiana.
Powell had 11 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists for her second careertriple-double as Stanford broke open a close game in the second half and gavecoach Tara Vandermeer a win over her alma mater.
Lindsey Yamasaki had 27 points and 13 rebounds while Bethany Donaphin added15 points for the Cardinal, who are playing host to a tournament for the firsttime since winning the Cardinal Classic in 1995-96.
The Lady Gauchos (1-0), the five-time defending Big West champions, reachedthe title game with a 90-78 victory over Western Kentucky in their first-roundgame Friday.
Sophomore forward Lindsay Taylor had career highs of 27 points and 14rebounds for UC Santa Barbara, which never trailed. Taylor made 10 of 15 shotsfrom the field and sank all but one of her eight free throws.
Kayte Christensen added 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Gauchos, whohad a commanding 52-31 edge in rebounds. Kristen Mann and Lisa Willett added 14and 12 points, respectively, off the bench.
Stanford leads the all-time series 6-1, including an 85-52 rout at MaplesPavilion in 1992. The Cardinal also defeated the Lady Gauchos in the secondround of the 1992 NCAA tournament en route to their first national title.
