Fujita, Swoboda Earn Verizon All-Academic Honors

BERKELEY - Senior linebacker Scott Fujita and junior tight end Tom Swoboda have both been voted to the Verizon Academic All-District football team.

Fujita, who competes as a graduate student in education for the Bears this fall, had a 3.39 undergraduate GPA in political science. He was a first team Pac-10 All-Academic selection last year. On the field, Fujita ranks second on the squad with 56 total tackles, including six for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Swoboda has a 3.58 GPA in business administration. He has eight catches this season for 89 yards, with a long of 22 yards vs. BYU.

The academic team was voted on by Sports Information Directors from the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington, and the province of British Columbia. All-district first team selections advance to the national ballot, which will be released Dec. 10.
