Four Huskies Earn All-Pac-10 Football Honors
Nov. 26, 2001
Seattle - Washington All-American defensive lineman Larry Tripplett and classmate, center Kyle Benn, were named first-team selections to the 2001 All-Pacific-10 Conference team today. They were joined on the second unit by freshman wide receiver Reggie Williams and sophomore placekicker John Anderson. Williams was also named the Pac-10 co-freshman of the year along with Stanford's Teyo Johnson.
Tripplett is a repeat first-team selection and becomes the first Husky interior defensive lineman to earn first-team all-conference honors in consecutive seasons since Steve Emtman in 1990 and 1991.Tripplett leads all Pac-10 interior defensive linemen this season with 14 tackles for loss. He finished the season with 38 total tackles.
Benn was one of two players on the all-Pac-10 first team to also be recognized as a first-team conference all-academic performer. He was the lone senior on a young Husky offensive line that has helped Washington to be ranked second in passing offense in the Pac-10 this season.
Williams is the only freshman to earn first- or second-team honors. He led the Huskies this season with 55 receptions for 973 yards. Both of those marks were Washington freshman records. Williams currently ranks third in the Pac-10 in receiving yards per game at 88.5 and is fourth in receptions per game at 5.0.
Anderson made 14 field goals during the season, the second most among Pac-10 kickers. He had last-second game-winning kicks in conference wins against USC and Arizona State.
Earned honorable mention all-conference honors for the Huskies were: junior flanker Paul Arnold, junior defensive end Kai Ellis, senior flanker Todd Elstrom, senior tailback Willie Hurst, senior cornerback Omare Lowe, junior linebacker Ben Mahdavi, freshman punter Derek McLaughlin and sophomore quarterback Cody Pickett.
The All-Pac-10 team is voted on by the conference coaches.
