Bruin Baseball Announces Eight NLI Signings

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - UCLA has received National Letters of Intent from eight baseball recruits during the early signing period (concluded last Wednesday), according to Bruins head coach Gary Adams.
The signed prospects will be classes at UCLA in September 2002 and will be eligible for baseball in the 2003 season. The list of signees include:
Scott Botterman, RHP, Grapevine,TX (Grapevine HS)-'Scott is a brawny kid who could develop into a top-flight power pitcher.'- Gary Adams
Brett McMillan, 3B, Shingle Springs,CA (Ponderosa HS) -'Brett generates tremendous power through his six-foot-five frame and his fluid swing. He is the best left-handed power prospect in the state and possibly the nation.'-Hitting coachVince Beringhele
Daniel Miltenberger, RHP, Laguna Niguel,CA (Laguna Niguel HS)- 'Daniel has three excellent pitches and will be a legitimate starting candidate in 2003.'-Adams
Steve Moss, OF, Sherman Oaks,CA (Notre Dame HS)- 'Steve is a multi-talented athlete and has outstanding tools.'-Adams
Paul Oseguera, LHP, Encinitas,CA (La Costa Canyon HS)- 'Paul fits the mold of Tom Glavine - not overpowering and not crafty, but very effective. He is one of California's premier pitchers.'-Adams
Manny Parra, LHP, Sacramento,CA (American River JC)- 'Manny is a left-handed strikeout pitcher who also swings an excellent bat.'-Adams
Will Penniall, 2B/OF, La Caï¿½ada,CA (La Caï¿½ada HS)- 'Will is a speedy, versatile switch hitter who is equally adept defensively at second base and the outfield.'-Adams
Adam Simon, RHP, La Puente,CA (Bishop Amat HS)- 'Adam is a smart, athletic pitcher who fits the mold of Pedro Martinez in stature and on the radar gun. He also happens to be a great outfielder as well.'-Beringhele
As a whole, these recruiting class will bolster UCLA's team speed and adding several power arms to the program, according to Adams.
UCLA opens training camp on Jan. 7, 2002 with the regular-season opener set for Jan. 29 at UC Irvine.
