Men's Basketball Selects Team Captains

Each of the three players honored are juniors and have a combined 208 games of collegiate basketball experience. The trio has one Pac-10 title and the 2001 NCAA Tournament runner-up finish under its collective belt. Anderson and Walton have been in the program since the 1998-99 season, while Gardner debuted for the Cats in the 1999-2000 season. The team vote took place after practice on Tuesday.
'We're pleased that the team recognized the leadership of all three juniors and named them tri-captains,' said Arizona head coach Lute Olson. 'They've done a tremendous job since school started in developing team chemistry and improving play on the court.'
Anderson, a 6-foot-9, 213-pound forward from Long Beach, Calif., is averaging 11.7 points and 6.7 rebounds through three games this season. In 62 career games, Anderson is averaging 4.1 points and 2.2 rebounds.
Gardner, a 5-foot-10, 181-pound guard from Indianapolis, Ind., is averaging a team-leading 24.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists. The reigning Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Week has career averages of 12.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists.
Walton, a 6-foot-8, 241-pound forward from San Diego, Calif., is averaging career-best numbers of 10.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. Walton, who opened the year with a 12-point, 12-rebound, six-assist performance vs. Maryland, has career averages of 5.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists.
Arizona is next in action on Saturday, Dec. 1, as the fourth-ranked Wildcats host No. 8 Kansas. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. MST and can be seen on CBS-TV
