Powell Earns First-Team All-America honors by Football Writers Association of America

Junior Luke Powell today was named First-Team All-America as a kick returner by the Football Writer's Assocation of America. Powell, who leads the Pac-10 and is eighth in the nation in punt returns, becomes the first Stanford football player to earn First-Team All-America honors as a kick returner.

He joins OG Eric Heitmann and FS Tank Williams as the third member of the 2001 Cardinal to earn All-America honors. Both Heitmann and Williams were recognized on the Football News All-America team.

Powell is also Stanford's second leading receiver with 34 catches for 632 yards and an 18.6 yards per catch average.A native of Smryna, Tennessee, Powell has punt returns this season of 49, 51 and 46 yards.
