Wrestling Finishes 14th At Annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite

Dec. 1, 2001

PRIMM, Nev. - Despite the fact that the Oregon wrestling entered the annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite void of three wrestlers, the Ducks put up good showing and finished 14th out of 25 teams with 53 points. Michigan finished first with 153 points, followed by West Virginia (122) and Lehigh (115.5).

Two Oregon wrestlers placed in the meet - heavyweight Eric Webb and 133-pounder Jason Harless. Webb defeated John Testa of Clarion, 6-3 to finish seventh and Harless defeated Cole Province, 3-0, of Central Oklahoma to also finish seventh.

'It's tough to come in and not have three wrestlers, but I think we are where we want to be and would have broken into the top 10 if we had a full roster,' Oregon head coach Chuck Kearney said. 'We wrestled hard, but we need to capitalize on some of opportunities.'

Oregon junior Brian Watson finished eighth at 141 pounds and Eugene Harris lost a close 6-5 decision to Chris Vitale of Lehigh in the semifinal match at 165 pounds.

Oregon returns to dual action next week when it wrestles at Oregon State Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
