This Week in Pac-10 Volleyball
ARIZONA, STANFORD, UCLA and USC have each appeared in no fewer than 17 NCAA Tournaments and have combined for a 161-67 (.706) NCAA Tournament record - capturing eight NCAA titles (1981, 1984, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1996 and 1997). . . STANFORD has won or shared the Pac-10 title seven of the last eight years - with nine championships overall. . . The Pac-10 has posted an impressive 80-22 (.784) record against non-league foes, including a mark of 20-10 (.667) against non-conference teams ranked in the Top 25. . . Neutral court experience should help Pac-10 teams in postseason play. Pac-10 teams have compiled a 32-2 (.941) record in neutral venues.

NCAA TOURNAMENT NOTES
For the second consecutive season, the Pac-10 sent six teams into the NCAA Tournament. Since Pac-10 play began in 1986, the Conference has sent at least half of the league's teams into NCAA play in 12 of the 16 championships. . . For just the third time in Pac-10 history, four teams have advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. The Pac-10 had four teams advance to the Sweet Sixteen in 1994 and 1997 - Stanford went on to capture the national title in each of those years. . . Over the last 11 years of NCAA Tournament play, the Pac-10 has piled up an impressive 105-35 (.750) record against non-league opponents, producing six national titles (UCLA 1990, 1991, STAN 1992, 1994, 1996, 1997). . . The Pac-10 posted a 22-13 (.629) record this season against non-league teams that make up the 64-team field for the NCAA Tournament. The six Pac-10 teams selected to participate in the Tournament sported a 20-7 (.741) record against teams in the field.
PAC-10 NOTES ON SWEET SIXTEEN PARTICIPANTS
ARIZONA - The Wildcats posted their sixth consecutive 20-win season. It's the seventh 20-win season for the Wildcats under the 10-year guidance of coach David Rubio. Arizona had just six 20-win seasons in the 18 years prior to Rubio's arrival in Tucson. . . It's the 17th NCAA Tournament appearance for the Wildcats and sixth consecutive appearance - their third consecutive Sweet Sixteen appearance. Arizona is 17-16 (.515) all-time in the NCAA Tournament. However, the Cats are 13-7 (.650) in their last seven Tournament appearances. . . Senior setter Dana Burkholder holds the UA record and is third all-time on the Pac-10 list with 5,288 career assists. . . Thanks to senior outside hitter Jill Talbot's Pac-10 leading .430 hitting percentage, Arizona is one of three Pac-10 teams to hit .300 or better this season.
STANFORD - The Cardinal are one of four teams to have appeared in all 21 championships. Stanford sports a 59-17 (.776) postseason record with four NCAA titles (1992, 1994, 1996, 1997). . . The Cardinal have won 22 consecutive postseason matches when hosting NCAA Tournament play. . . Pac-10 Player of the Year Logan Tom leads the Pac-10 in kills (4.84 kpg), service aces (0.58 sapg) and points (5.92 ppg). She ranks second in the Conference in digs (3.45 dpg). . . Pac-10 Freshman of the Year Ogonna Nnamani leads all Pac-10 freshman in kills with 3.87 kpg.
UCLA - The Bruins are making their 20th NCAA Tournament appearance with a postseason record of 53-17 (.757). UCLA won NCAA titles in 1984, 1990 and 1991. . . Senior setter Erika Selsor ranks ninth in NCAA Division I history with 6,160 career assists. . . Senior outside hitter Kristee Porter returns to the UCLA lineup after having her eligibility restored by the NCAA Student-Athlete Reinstatement Staff (she missed 13 matches). Porter is the Pac-10's all-time kills leader (2,225). . . The senior trio of Selsor, Porter and outside hitter Ashley Bowles have combined for 4,136 kills and 3,343 digs during their career.
USC - The Trojans are making their 19th NCAA Tournament appearance and have a 32-17 (.653) postseason record. . . USC captured the first NCAA title in women's volleyball in 1981. . . The Trojans lead the Pac-10 in hitting (.318). Senior middle blocker Jennifer Pahl ranks second in the league (.396), while sophomore middle blocker Katie Olsovsky is tied for third (.390). . . Pahl ranks sixth on USC's all-time total blocks list with 396. . . Despite not having an individual player among the league's top ten in assists, USC leads the league in assists with 16.02 assists per game. . . USC is 12-1 when serving as host to NCAA Tournament play.

ARIZONA STATE - Senior outside hitter Jami Coughlin concluded her career with 1,528 digs - that ranks fourth all-time on the Pac-10 career list. Coughlin led the Pac-10 in digs (3.98 dpg) for the second time in her career. She also posted 1,360 career kills - sixth all-time in school history. . . Sophomore outside hitter Kim Mehlhorn concluded the 2001 campaign with 3.42 kpg and 2.76 dpg. She posted double digit kill totals in 14 of ASU's last 15 matches. . . The Sun Devils posted a double digit win total for the fifth consecutive season and 15th time in the last 16 seasons.
CALIFORNIA - Senior setter Candace McNamee finished her Cal career playing in 110 matches and 375 games. She ranks third on Cal's all-time assist list (3,622), seventh on Cal's all-time service ace list (101) and ninth on Cal's all-time total block list (236). assist list (3,491). . . Freshman middle blocker Camille Leffall was the Pac-10's top freshman in hitting percentage, ranking third overall in the league with a .381 hitting percentage. Her percentage established a California single-season record.
OREGON - Junior middle blocker Stephanie Martin finished the year with a .311 hitting percentage - it's the highest hitting percentage by an Oregon player since 1984 (Sue Harbour, .364). . . Senior outside hitter Monique Tobbagi finished her Oregon career with 1,174 kills. Tobbagi is just the fifth player in Oregon history to reach the 1,000 kill plateau. . . With 2,732 career assists, senior setter Julie Gerlach now ranks third all-time at Oregon. . . Junior middle blocker Lindsay Closs (119 total blocks) and Martin (126 total blocks) give the Ducks two players to each record 100 or more total blocks in a season since 1993.
OREGON STATE - The Beavers made their second appearance in the NCAA Tournament, having last appeared in 1983. . . The 10 wins and fifth-place finish in Conference play are the most wins and highest finish for the Beavers since 1990 when they finished third in Pac-10 play with a 11-7 record. . . Outside hitter Gina Schmidt piled up 1,366 kills and 1,142 assists during her career. Those numbers rank third and seventh respectively on the OSU career lists. . . With 334 total blocks, junior middle blocker Michele Solomon ranks eighth on the OSU all-time list.
WASHINGTON - Senior outside hitter Allison Richardson finished her career with 1004 kills - eighth all-time on the UW career list. Richardson's 4.29 kills per game ranked second only to Pac-10 Player of the Year Logan Tom's 4.91 kpg. . . Junior setter Gretchen Maurer posted the fourth best single-season assists total in school history with 1,215 assists. Her career total (1,765 assists) ranks seventh all-time at Washington. . . Senior middle blocker Lisa Underhill concludes her UW career third on the school career list for block assists (371) and total blocks (415).
WASHINGTON STATE - The Cougars made their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance. . . WSU finished Pac-10 play with a 9-9 league record for the second consecutive season. The Cougars have posted a .500 record or better in league play in five of the last six seasons. . . The Cougars led the league with 1.81 service aces per game - the most in the Pac-10 since 1994. . . Junior outside hitter LaToya Harris ranks fourth on the school career charts with 1,078 kills and fifth with 103 service aces. . . Junior middle blocker Holly Harris ranks ninth on the school career charts with 277 total blocks. . . With 2,540 assists, Setter Kali Surplus concluded her career fifth on WSU's career list.
