Bellotti Comments on Notre Dame Opening

Dec. 7, 2001

EUGENE - Oregon football coach Mike Bellotti commented on the Notre Dame opening and on offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford's job interviews with reporters Friday before practice. The following is a transcript of his comments:

'I was contacted by Notre Dame and talked with them, and have said thank you very much, I appreciate being considered, but am not, at this point, a candidate for that job, and will not be one.'

'Notre Dame asked, and got permission from (Oregon Athletic Director) Bill Moos to speak with me. I had the opportunity to speak with Kevin (White, Notre Dame Athletic Director), and it was a very pleasant conversation. I think he's a great man and has the passion for Notre Dame and will get a great coach. It's just that at this point in time, for me, from my family's standpoint, and everything else of what I have here, I'm completely happy and very excited about what we are doing.'

Regarding offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford:

'I can tell you a couple of things. Jeff was offered and turned down the San Diego State job. He is interviewing today at Cal.'
