Volleball Regional Semifinal: Texas A&M Defeats Wisconsin 3-0

Stanford, Calif. - Michelle Cole had 12 kills and 18 digs to lead the 15th-ranked Texas A&M volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of sixth-ranked Wisconsin tonight in Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif. Game scores were 30-28, 30-24, 30-23.

The Aggies improve to 26-5 on the year while the Badgers end their season 27-4.

Game one was a back and forth battle between the two teams until Texas A&M went up 15-12 and Wisconsin took a timeout. The match remained tight with the Aggies reaching 26-22 on a Erin Lechler kill. Another Lechler kill forced a Badger timeout at 27-22. Wisconsin fought back to within two points at 26-28 but a Badger service error would eventually give Texas A&M game point at 29-26. Wisconsin pulled to within one at 28-29 but a Michelle Cole kill gave the Aggies game one at 30-28.

Game two remained close until Texas A&M took the 18-14 lead, forcing a Wisconsin timeout. Erin Lechler put away an overpass to give the Aggies a 21-15 advantage. Badger Jill Odenthal's kill pulled Wisconsin to within four at 21-25 but it was too late. Texas A&M pushed to game point and a kill by Brandi Mount sealed the game at 30-24. The Aggies hit .304 for the game while Wisconsin hit .143.

Once again, game three stayed close in the early stages until Texas A&M took a 21-17 lead on a Wisconsin miscue. The Aggies would press forward eventually winning the match 30-23 to advance to the regional championship match tomorrow night.

Tara Pulaski led the Aggies with 13 kills and three blocks. Melissa Munsch and Brandi Mount each added nine kills to the cause. Setter Jenna Moscovic tallied 43 assists and two blocks on the night.

Texas A&M will play Stanford tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. in the regional final with the winner advancing to the Final Four in San Diego, Calif.
