Women's Tennis Players Earn Spots in Fall Rankings

TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona sophomore Debbie Larocque garnered a No. 54 ranking to lead all Wildcats in the ITA Fall Rankings released Tuesday. Larocque was rewarded for her 8-4 fall record by vaulting 31 spots from her preseason ranking of No. 85.

UA freshman Maja Mlakar is the other Wildcat to hold down a singles ranking, cracking the polls at No. 89. Mlakar closed the fall campaign with three straight victories to post a 7-3 mark during fall competition.

On the doubles side, Larocque and senior Laresa Marino lead the squad with a No. 40 ranking. Larocque also appears in the poll with Mlakar at No. 56 after a 3-1 fall campaign, highlighted by an 8-2 win over the 23rd-ranked pair of Lindsey Green and Becky Varnum of Notre Dame.

The Cats open the spring season at the Pac-10 Indoor Championships, Jan. 18-21, in Seattle, Wash.
