Oregon State's Weathersby, Allen Earn Honors

CORVALLIS-Oregon State junior cornerback Dennis Weathersby has been selected second team All-American and senior linebacker James Allen will participate in the Senior Bowl game, it was announced Wednesday.

Weathersby was selected to The Sporting News' second team All-American squad. Weathersby earlier was selected as a second-team All-Pacific-10 pick. In addition, Weathersby was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic team and was selected to the Verizon District 8 All-Academic team.

Weathersby was a preseason Playboy Magazine first-team All-America selection.

Allen, who was also a preseason Playboy Magazine first-team All-America pick, will play in the Senior Bowl, scheduled to be played on Saturday, January 26 at Mobile, Alabama. The game will be televised by ESPN at 2:00 p.m. PST.

Senior center Chris Gibson was selected earlier to play in the East-West Shrine game. The East-West Shrine game will be played at San Francisco's Pac Bell Park on January 12.

Oregon State's last participant in the Senior Bowl was wide receiver Chad Johnson last year. Three former Beavers participated in last year's East-West Shrine game-wide receiver T.J. Housmandzadeh, defensive end DeLawrence Grant and safety Terrence Carroll.
