UCLA Women's Basketball At Baylor Sunday

UCLA At Baylor In Fox Sports Net Game Sunday - The Bruins will travel to play at ninth-ranked (AP) Baylor on Sunday, Dec. 16 in Waco, TX at 11:00 a.m. Pacific time. Fox Sports Net will televise the game live.
Baylor enters the contest with a perfect 9-0 record. Senior guard Sheila Lambert (17.6 ppg) and 6-2 senior forward Danielle Crockrom (16.6 ppg/ 10.7 rpg) lead the Lady Bears. Lambert, an honorable mention All-American last season, led the Big 12 conference in scoring in 2000-01 with a 22.1 average. Crockrom was an honorable mention All-America last season and broke the Big 12 record for single-season rebounds with 347 (11.6 avg.).
Last season, the Lady Bears made their first ever appearance in the NCAA tournament. Baylor lost its first round matchup with Arkansas and finished with a 21-9 record.
UCLA leads the all-time series with the Bears, 2-1, and lost the only previous matchup at Waco, TX in 1995.
Greco To Sit Out Rest of Season - It was announced on Wednesday, December 12 that Bruin leading scorer Michelle Greco will not participate for the remainder of the current season for medical reasons. Due to a history of mild concussions during her sophomore and junior year, the UCLA Medical Staff believes that Greco should take a year off from competition. At the conclusion of the 2001-02 season, UCLA will submit a medical hardship petition to the Pacific-10 Conference with the hope that Greco will be granted another year of collegiate eligibility.
Radio/TV - The game will be televised live on Fox Sports Net. There is no local radio broadcast of this contest.
Next Up - The Bruins open up the Pac-10 schedule with home games on Dec. 20 (Oregon-7 p.m.) and Dec. 22 (Oregon State-Noon) in Pauley Pavilion.
Multi-Sport Stars Join Team - Soccer standout Whitney Jones, the third-leading scorer (7.2 points) on the Bruin team last season, participated in her first basketball game at San Diego last Wednesday. She had four rebounds in 25 minutes of play. Three-sport star Kristee Porter, the second-leading scorer on the Bruin team last season (13.0 points), saw action in her first game on Dec. 8 against Colorado after playing in the NCAA Regional volleyball final on Saturday night, Dec. 7. She totaled three points and three rebounds versus the Buffaloes.
Porter was a star player on the volleyball team, earning all-district and all-conference honors her first two seasons and All-America honors in 2000. She set numerous UCLA and Pac-10 records for coach Andy Banachowski, including the career kills record (2,225, 14th-best in NCAA history). Porter also competes in the triple jump for the UCLA women's track and field team and qualified for the Pac-10 Championships in that event.
Jones is a starting midfielder for the highly-ranked UCLA women's soccer team, which finished its season on Dec. 2 after losing in the NCAA quarterfinals.
Bruins Face Another Tough Schedule - This year's schedule is once again a challenging one. Non-conference games with teams from last year's NCAA tournament field include - Liberty, Utah, Baylor and Colorado. The Bruins will face NCAA tournament teams from inside the conference in Oregon, Arizona State, Washington and Stanford. Local road matchups with Long Beach and San Diego are also on tap.

15th-Ranked Colorado Deals Bruins Setback - Colorado ran out to 21-4 advantage on the way to handing the Bruins a 79-48 defeat. Jalina Bradley and Shalada Allen added 11 points each for UCLA. Bradley also pulled down a career-best eight rebounds. The Bruins played their second game without leading scorer Michelle Greco.
San Diego Hands Bruins 79-51 Road Setback - San Diego used a 17-2 run to start the second half and posted a 79-51 win over the Bruins. USD had taken a 31-21 lead at the intermission. Gennifer Arranaga matched her career-high with 13 points and Jalina Bradley added a career-high 13 points for UCLA. Leading scorer Michelle Greco sat out the game due to medical reasons.
