Devils Drop Close One To Stanford, 75-66

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Nicole Powell had 25 points and nine rebounds, andLindsey Yamasaki scored 22 as No. 6 Stanford rallied in the second half to beatArizona State 75-66 Friday night.

The Cardinal (10-1, 2-0 Pac-10) trailed 37-33 after Arizona State's MelodyJohnson made two free throws two seconds into the second half. But Stanfordsurged ahead with an 11-1 run to take a 44-38 lead on Yamasaki's two freethrows 3:32 later.

Powell and Yamasaki each scored 13 points after halftime, and KelleySuminski finished with 11 for the Cardinal.

Amanda Levens scored 28 points for the Sun Devils (9-3, 0-1), Betsy Boardmanhad 11, and Cian Carvalho 10.

After Stanford's run, the Sun Devils drew within five, cutting their deficitto 52-47 on a jumper by Carrie Buckner with 11:17 remaining. But Yamasaki hadsix points and Suminski four during a 10-2 surge that opened a 62-49 lead with7:58 to go.

The Sun Devils, hampered by fouls down the stretch, never got closer thanseven points. They also didn't shoot well - Johnson missed four straight foulshots in the last three minutes.

Arizona State had a 34-21 lead, its biggest of the game, with 5:02 left inthe first half, but the Cardinal outscored the Sun Devils 12-1 until the break.
