WSU Falls To Oregon 76-47

EUGENE, Ore. - Washington State's Whitney Martindale scored 14 points and Jessica Perry recorded a season-high 12 points in the Cougars' 76-47 loss to the Oregon Ducks in Pacific-10 Conference women's basketball action, Sunday at McArthur Court.
The loss dropped WSU to 2-11 overall and 0-3 in the Pac-10. Oregon improved to 8-5 and 3-1 in the Pac-10.
Brittney Hawks saw her consecutive game streak of double-doubles in points and rebounds end at six as the senior from Rexburg, Idaho recorded eight points and eight rebounds for WSU.
Andrea Bills led Oregon with 13 points and Alyssa Fredrick added 12 points for the Ducks. Shaquala Williams, who entered the game as the Ducks' leading scorer, was held to eight points.
With the game tied at five just over four minutes into the contest, Oregon went on a 17-4 run over a 6:42 span to open up a 22-9 advantage at the 9:15 mark of the first half. The Ducks would extend their lead to 43-23 at the halftime break.
The Cougars struggled from the floor in the first half, hitting 5-of-23 shots (21.7 percent). Conversely, Oregon was 13-of-28 (46.4 percent) from the floor.
WSU bolted out of the gates in the second half, however, blitzing the Ducks with a 9-0 run to cut Oregon's lead to 43-32 at the 17:25 mark. In the run, the Cougars shot 4-of-5 from the field as a quartet of players (Jessica Ottmar, Martindale, Perry and Hawks) accounted for points.
Oregon would rebound to stretch its lead back to 19 at 56-37 with 12:21 remaining. The Cougars would manage to slice their deficit to 15 on three occasions during the next six minutes before Oregon pulled away with a 16-2 run over the game's final 6:16.
WSU returns to Pullman for its Pac-10 Conference home opener, Friday, Jan. 4 against USC. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at Friel Court.
