McHardy Named To Verizon Academic All-District VIII Squad

Oregon State men's soccer player Aaron McHardy was one of 11 players named to the Verizon Academic All-District VIII Soccer Team, it was announced Thursday. The selection, the first of his career, now makes him eligible for Academic All-America consideration.

The junior from Vancouver, British Columbia, who carries a 3.71 grade point average while majoring in Business, recorded one of the finest seasons in Oregon State history in 2001. The midfielder totaled 23 points on the season on 10 goals and three assists to lead the team and place second in Pac-10 regular-season scoring.

McHardy was a First-Team Academic All-Pac-10 choice in 2001, as well as a Second-Team All-Pac-10, NSCAA All-Region, and NSCAA First-Team Scholar All-American.

McHardy, who is a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, attended the prestigious NCAA Leadership Conference in 2000, and is involved in Kaleidoscope, a program that brings students of color to OSU to learn about science.

To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have reached at least sophomore status, be a starter or significant reserve, and have at least a 3.20 GPA.
