A Quick Look at the Golden Bears
* Cal aims for its 12th consecutive home victory when the Bears host Washington State Saturday in Haas Pavilion. The current streak ties for the seventh-longest in school history and it's the second string of at least 10 games since Haas opened in November 1999 - Cal won 14 consecutive games from March 4, 2000 to Feb. 1, 2001.

* At 12-3, Cal is off to its best 15-game start since Pete Newell's 1959-60 squad began 28-1 on its way to a 28-2 record and a runner-up finish in the NCAA Tournament.

* Freshman center Jamal Sampson had the finest game of his career Thursday vs. Washington, finishing with 15 points, 17 rebounds, 5 blocks and 3 assists. The 15 points tied a personal high, while the rebound, block and assist totals were career bests.

* Senior center Solomon Hughes saw his first action since Dec. 29 Thursday, playing eight minutes and chipping in with 5 points and 4 rebounds. Hughes missed Cal's first four Pac-10 games with a strained right knee and bone bruise.

* Cal continues to lead the Pac-10 in four defensive categories - scoring defense (61.1 ppg), field goal percentage defense (38.6%), steals (9.40 spg) and turnover margin (+5.80).

* The Bears have held eight of their first 15 opponents to 60 points or less. In 1998-99, Cal limited eight teams to 60 or less over the full season, but you have to go back to 1985-86 to find a year when more than eight foes scored 60 or less. That season, 10 teams did not break 60 points when a 45-second shot clock was in use.

* Junior forward Joe Shipp, who leads Cal in scoring with 15.3 ppg, has also emerged as the Bears' second-leading rebounder, pulling down 5.1 boards per game. He has had at least five rebounds in eight of Cal's last nine games.
