Wildcat Women Take Out Bruins, 71-60

LOS ANGELES - The Arizona women's basketball team bested UCLA, 71-60, on Sunday before a crowd of 2,138 in Pauley Pavilion to winits fourth game in the last five outings and fourth straight in Pac-10 conference play. Sophomoreguard Aimee Grzyb led the visitors with 19 points, including five three-point shots in the first half.Junior forward Krista Warren added 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Arizona grabbed the lead for good in the game after holding UCLA scoreless for almost six minutesmidway through the first half on the way to a 33-28 halftime advantage. After UCLA took a 20-19 leadat the 9:22 mark, Arizona ran off seven unanswered points. Whitney Jones scored on a three-pointshot at the 3:26 mark to break the Bruin ice and make it 26-23 in favor of the Wildcats. UCLA thenclosed to within one point at 26-25 with 2:41 to play in the half, but could get no closer the rest of the game.
Jones, a sophomore forward, led UCLA with a season-high of 17 points, including four fromthree-point range. Bruin junior guard Natalie Nakase added 10 points and a career-high 11 assists.With the loss, UCLA falls to 5-12 on the season and 2-7 in the Pac-10 conference. Sophomore guardGennifer Arranaga was also in double figures for UCLA and finished with 12 points.
Arizona, which hit seven of eight free throws down the stretch to secure the win, evened its overallrecord to 9-9 and improved its Pac-10 mark to 5-4. The Wildcats will play at the Bay Area schoolsnext week.
'We played hard once again today,' said Bruin head coach Kathy Olivier. 'We just did not finish. Wemust make our shots when we get a good look. Arizona switched its defense in the second half andwe had trouble getting open shots.'
