Wildcat's Women Swimming and Diving Fall to Stanford
TUCSON, Ariz. - The top-ranked Cardinal defeated Arizona's men's and women's swimming and diving teams at Stanford. The No. 3 Wildcat women lost 182-118, while the No. 9 men lost 192-106. The meet took place at Stanford in Palo Alto, California.
On the men's side of the event Arizona swept the one and three-meter springboard. Senior Ruben Vaca placed first on the one-meter, scoring 340.80 points. Senior Omar Ojeda and sophomore Alex Vollelunga placed second and third respectively with 336.75 and 290.63 points. On the three-meter event Ojeda took home first place with a total of 343.50 points. Sophomore Josh Anderson finished in second place, scoring 318.53 points and Vaca placed third, scoring 307.28 points.
Senior Roland Schoeman captured first place in the 50y free when he touched the wall at 20.02. Schoeman also won the 100y free with the time of 43.99.
For the Arizona women senior Jenny Vanker touched the wall first in the 50y free at 23.89. Freshman Jessica Hayes capture first place in the 200y backstroke with the time of 2:00.58. Arizona took home first place in the last event of the meet, the 200y free relay. The relay team was made up of Vanker, Hayes, and seniors Katie Zimbone and Caroline Kilian and touched the wall at 1:34.85.
Arizona will take on the Golden Bears of California Saturday at 12 p.m.
