Klaas Named to Soccer America All-Freshman Team

Jan. 30, 2002

Seattle - Washington soccer player C.J. Klaas (Cherry Valley, Ill.) has been named to the Soccer America Magazine Men's All-Freshman Soccer Team. The team will be featured in the Feb. 4 issue of the magazine.

Syracuse forward Jarett Park, who led NCAA Division I men in assists with 14 in 15 games, was Freshman of the Year, while 11 others earned recognition on the team.

Klaas, a midfielder, was named 2001 Pac-10 Conference Freshman of the Year after helping the Husky soccer team to a record of 13-6-0 overall and 4-4-0 and third place in the conference. He started 16 games in his first year at Washington, scoring one goal and tallying five assists and was instrumental in leading the Huskies to a seventh consecutive NCAA tournament appearance. Along with his conference freshman honor, Klaas was a second team All-Pac-10 selection.

Klaas, who also plays defender on the U.S. Under-20 squad, is the second Washington player named to the Soccer America freshman team, following Rees Bettinger in 1996.
