Men's Golf Opens Spring Season At Ping/Arizona Invitational

TEEING OFF: Oregon State's men's golf squad gets its spring campaign underway on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 4-5 at the Ping/Arizona Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. The 54-hole event will be played at The Raven at Sabino Springs, which carries a par of 71 and plays to 6,900 yards. Teams play 36 holes on Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start, and wrap up with 18 holes on Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m.

THE FIELD: Oregon State joins a field of 20 teams at the 2002 Ping/Arizona Intercollegiate. Of the 20 teams, nine are ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index top 25, including No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 7 USC, No. 11 Fresno State, No. 13 Washington, No. 16 New Mexico, No. 19 South Carolina, No. 22 Southern Methodist, host and No. 23 Arizona, and No. 25 Pepperdine. Rounding out the field are Arizona State, BYU, California, UC-Irvine, Long Beach State, Mississippi, Oregon, Stanford, Tulsa, and UCLA. Arizona will play a second 'B' team as well to make the field 20 strong. Eleven of the teams qualified for the NCAA Championships last year.
