UW Gymnastics Teams Falls at Oregon State

Corvallis, OR - Despite a strong performance by sophomore Emily Pritchard, the Washington women's gymnastics team lost at Oregon State 194.950 to 193.850.

Pritchard won the all-around for the second time this season with a score of 39.325. She also finished first on beam (9.825) and tied for first on vault (9.825) with Oregon State's Therese Videan. Pritchard was second overall on bars with a score of 9.850. While she finished fourth overall on floor, Pritchard equaled her career high on the event with a score of 9.825.

The Beavers won the meet during the final rotation when they scored 49.400 on floor exercise while the Huskies managed 193.850 on beam. Oregon State went into the final event holding s slim 145.550 to 145.175 lead. The victory was the first of the season for the Beavers (1-2) while the Huskies dropped to 2-2.

Oregon State won the vault (48.600-48.525), bars (48.750-48.050) and floor (49.400-48.600) while the Huskies took the beam competition (48.675-48.200). In addition to Pritchard's first-place finish, Washington's Tanya Powers was second overall on beam at 9.800. Powers scored 37.850 during the all-around.

The Huskies were shorthanded during the meet after sophomore Molly Seaman was lost for the season when she suffered a knee injury at practice during the week. Last Sunday, Seaman won the all-around for the Huskies in a dual-meet victory against 20th-ranked California.

Some other Husky highlights from the meet included:
* Freshman Courtney Canavan tied her season high on vault (9.675) and set a new career high on beam (9.675).
* Sophomore Kim Claussen competed on vault for the first time during her career, scoring 9.550.
* Freshman Lauren Brooks set a new career high on vault (9.600).
* Freshman Kim Lewis competed on beam (9.325) for the first time and also set a new career high on floor (9.775).

Washington will host top-ranked Utah on Friday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. PT at Bank of America Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion.
