Yarnes Tied For 11th, Men's Golf 15th At Ping/Arizona Intercollegiate

Oregon State golfer David Yarnes led the Beavers in their first competition of the spring with an opening-round 70 on Monday at the Ping/Arizona Intercollegiate. The Beavers shot a 295 to finish the first round in 15th at The Raven at Sabino Springs, which plays to a par of 71.
Teams were slated to play 36 holes Monday, but darkness forced the suspension of the second round with approximately two-thirds of the teams still on the course. Play will resume at 7:30 Tuesday morning, followed by the final round.
Yarnes, a senior from Tucson, Ariz., is tied with five players for 11th and is three shots off the lead after signing for his low round of the year.
Tied for 84th is Chance Holmes, who carded a 77, while James Salt shot 81.The Beavers are one stroke back of tournament host Arizona's 'B' squad, and nine strokes separate OSU from fourth-place Pepperdine.
The field of 20 features nine of the country's top 25 programs, and 11 teams that went to the NCAA Championships last season.
Two shots separate the top three teams, as USC owns a one-stroke lead over New Mexico and has two shots on Oklahoma State after a 281.
Three players own a share of the lead, with UC-Irvine's Mike Lavery, Oklahoma State's Hunter Mahan, and Jay Reynolds of New Mexico all tied at 67.
