Arizona State University Head Football Coach Dirk Koetter signed 30 student-athletes to national letters of intent to study and play football, ASU announced Wednesday. The class is comprised of 22 freshmen and eight junior college transfers, including the nation's top-rated junior college quarterback and top-rated junior college tight end. Additionally, the Sun Devils signed 13 linemen, including seven offensive linemen.

'This class addresses our needs at every position,' said Koetter. 'This group features highly skilled student-athletes, lots of speed and several players who played in championship programs. That is important to our program's progress. But probably the most impressive accomplishment of this class is that we hit all of our numbers in terms of needs at positions. That is extremely difficult to do and not many classes hit exactly on their numbers.'

After having just 27 recruiting days to assemble the 2001 class, Koetter and his staff showed what they can do with a full cycle in 2001-02.

The signature of Koetter's first ASU class was speed and this group is comparable.

Eleven of the signees in this class hail from the state of Arizona, including most of the finest talent in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. In fact, spanning two classes at ASU, Koetter has signed 19 Arizonans to letters of intent. Thirteen signees come from the state of California and four call Texas home.

    ASU signed 16 freshmen in 2001, 25 in 2000, 16 in 1999, 19 in 1998, 18 each in 1997 and 1996 and 17 in 1995.
