Feb. 6, 2002
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Stanford sophomore Caroline Fluhrer (Seattle, Wash.) has been named Pac-10 Women's Gymnast of the Week for Jan.29-Feb.3, as announced by the Pacific-10 Conference earlier this morning.
Fluhrer has been a prominent member of the Stanford women's gymnastics program since she arrived on The Farm last season. Against Arizona and Denver this weekend, the 2001 All Pac-10 selection showcased her exciting, dynamic routines. The second-year performer scored a 9.900 or better on all three events she competed on, establishing season-high scores in the process in the Denver meet. She notched a 9.850 on the balance beam against Arizona, her highest mark on that event this season.
One of six Cardinal sophomores on this season's squad, Fluhrer has competed in the All-Around in four of Stanford's first five meets of the year. Her 39.225 score in the All-Around against Minnesota in the season opener is the highest of the season for the Red and White.
Fluhrer is also receiving national attention for her efforts, as the gymnast is ranked No. 22 in the country on the vault with an average score of 9.831.
The Cardinal is currently 4-1 overall and ranked No. 7 nationally. Stanford, the defending Pac-10 champions, travels to Los Angeles to square off against No. 11 UCLA on Sunday at 2 p.m. in a marquee conference showdown.
