This Week --
Arizona State track and field makes its full squad 2002 indoor debut this weekend, sending athletes to both the Iowa State Classic, Friday, Feb. 8, through Saturday, Feb. 9, and the Mountain T Invitational in Flagstaff, Saturday Feb. 9. ASU's top distance runners will compete at the 12th-annual Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, which gets underway Friday at 3:30 p.m. CT, while first events Saturday begin at 10 a.m. CT. The rest of the Sun Devil squad will compete in the Mountain T Invitational, hosted by Northern Arizona Saturday in Flagstaff, beginning with session one at 9 a.m. MST, followed by session two at 1 p.m.

National Rankings --
Neither ASU's men's or women's track squads have been ranked in the first three Trackwire Top-25 polls for the 2002 indoor season. Last year, the men did not receive a top-25 indoor billing, while the women were ranked as high as 18th in the second poll of the season.

Sun Devil Trio Debuts At LSU --
ASU sent a long jumping trio to the Purple Tiger Invitational hosted by Louisiana State University, Saturday, Jan. 26. In her 2002 indoor debut, junior All-American Tiffany Greer placed third in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 11.75 inches. Also competing for ASU were freshmen Trevell Quinley and Asokah Muhammad, both making their collegiate debuts in the men's long jump. Quinley's leap of 23-4.75 was good for sixth place, while Muhammad placed eighth with an effort of 22-8.5. Muhammad also competed in the men's triple jump but fouled on his attempts.

2001 Indoor Season Recap --
Last year at the NCAA Indoor Championships, ASU's women tied for 25th with Kansas State (nine points), recording their second-best team finish since 1995 when the Sun Devils tied for 19th. Earning All-America honors were Kelly MacDonald (fifth place in the 5000m), Adrienne Judie (fourth in the weight throw) and Tiffany Greer (11th place in the long jump). Setting ASU indoor records in 2001 for the women were Seneca Holmes in the 60m hurdles (8.48 alt. adj.), Judie in the weight throw (66-10) and Olivia Mazzaglia in the pole vault (11-8). ASU's men did not record any points at the NCAA Indoor Championships, but they did see some bright spots during the short season. The men's 4x400m relay team of Michael Campbell, Jason Barton, Pete Lopez and Tony Berrian set a school record at the MPSF Championships with a time of 3:07.02, breaking the previous record of 3:08.35 set in 1999. Also setting an ASU indoor record for the men was Tony Galaviz in the 60m hurdles (7.81).

Up Next --
ASU will return to Flagstaff Thursday, Feb. 14, for its annual indoor Double Dual with intrastate rivals Arizona and Northern Arizona. Field events are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. MST, with running events getting started at 6 p.m.
