Lionel Arnold Adds Name To WSU Recruit List

Feb. 7, 2002

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Lionel Arnold, a 6-2, 205-pound running back and sprinter from Contra Costa Junior College, added his name to Washington State University's football recruiting list Thursday, bringing to 25 the number of players who have signed national letters of intent, according to head coach Mike Price.

Arnold, who ran for 1,251 rushing yards and scored 14 touchdowns last fall, is the fifth junior college transfer signed by the Cougars. In addition, WSU has signed 20 high school seniors.

'We are excited to sign Lionel Arnold,' offered Price. 'It was very competitive recruiting him. Now Lionel will get every opportunity to challenge for a starting position in our backfield next fall.

'Lionel was one of the first junior college running backs we looked at, but at first we were unsure about his academics,' said Price. 'Since then he has kicked it in gear academically, just like he did on the football field. I am confident he will continue to fulfill his academic obligations at Contra Costa and be ready to compete here in the fall.'
