Women's Tennis Triumphs Over Loyola Marymount 4-3

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The 65th ranked women's tennis team fell behind early in doubles competition, but came back to win four of six singles matches, and defeat the 66th ranked Lions of Loyola Marymount 4-3 Friday afternoon at the LMU Tennis complex.

The Ducks sole victory in doubles came from the tandem of junior Monica Gieczys and senior Janice Nyland, who defeated Edit Pakay and Penka Fileva 8-6.

In Singles competiton, sophomore Vickie Gunnarson improved her singles record to 10-3 with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Georgina Dinham, while Davina Mendiburu, Monica Gieczys, and Ester Bak also contributed with victories.

'We lost 4-3 to them last year, so this was sweet revenge,' said head coach Jack Griffin.

The Ducks improved to 5-0 in dual matches with today's victory. Up next, the Ducks take on San Diego on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. at the USD West courts.
