Storey Joins Crandall On Injury List For Men's Hoops

Feb. 10, 2002

STOREY JOINS CRANDALL ON INJURY LIST: Senior forward Awvee Storey has joined Kenny Crandall on the Arizona State men's basketball injury list. Storey was poked in the eye on Saturday against Washington and has a swollen left retina and a laceration of the lower left eyelid. Medication to help stop bleeding beneath the retina and the healing process will have Storey out of action for two weeks. ASU plays at USC Thursday night (8:30 p.m. MST on KUSK-TV) and at UCLA on Saturday (1:30 p.m. MST on ABC KNXV-15 in Phoenix. ASU also visits Arizona next Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. MST on Fox Sports Arizona. Storey had started 13 games for ASU and was averaging 15.6 minutes per game. He had started the past six games and has notched seven double-figure scoring games this year. Storey led the Pac-10 in rebounding last year at 9.1 caroms per contest. Crandall is expected to miss the next 4-6 weeks after injuring his right foot at Stanford on Jan. 31. Crandall sustained a sprain to a ligament in his right mid-foot in the first half. He ranked third in the league in three-point shooting in Pac-10 games heading into last week as he had hit 18-of-38 (.474). He also is averaging 7.6 points and is shooting 52.1 percent from the field in Pac-10 contests.

COMBINE THE TWO: Taking Crandall and Storey out of the rotation means ASU statistically will have to go without 35.6 minutes, 13.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. A few players have stepped up already, as Storey actually only played two minutes vs. Washington State on Thursday due to a lower back sprain. Curtis Millage, who leads the team in minutes played at 29.7 per game, became the first Sun Devil to play 40 minutes when he went the distance against Washington on Saturday. Also, Donnell Knight played a season-high 26 minutes vs. Washington State while Chad Prewitt played a career-high 38 vs. Washington en route to his career-high 33 points.

GOOD NOTE: The only team to beat both Pac-10 leading Arizona (10-3) and second-place Oregon (9-4) is seventh-place Arizona State (6-7). ASU beat Oregon 95-88 on Jan. 6 and beat No. 10 Arizona 88-72 on Jan. 23. ASU might have as much say about who wins the regular season Pac-10 title as the six teams still in the hunt, as ASU's begins a five-game streak this week to conclude the season against teams all still contending for the Pac-10 title.

SUN DEVIL DATA: Chad Prewitt's 33-point game vs. Washington on Stanford is the most points by a Sun Devil since Eddie House posted 40 vs. UCLA on Feb. 17, 2000, a span of 59 games...Prewitt has made 12-of-26 (.461) from the three-point stripe in the past seven games...ASU posted its biggest victory margin in its 24 Pac-10 seasons with its 51-point win (96-45) over Washington State on Thursday. The mark was just four points off the Pac-10 record set by Arizona, when it defeated Washington 116-61 on Dec. 20, 1988...ASU outrebounded WSU by 26 (48-22), the third-biggest rebounding margin in Rob Evans' coaching career (280 games)...ASU is averaging 17.6 assists per game in its 13 Pac-10 contests...ASU is 10-3 at home this year after going 10-7 last year...Chad Prewitt is averaging 20.5 points in his past 13 games and has 11 20-point games...junior Curtis Millage is averaging 14.2 points in Pac-10 play and has led ASU in rebounding in three of the past five games. He is averaging 7.1 rebounds in the past seven games...ASU is now 26-4 (.867) under Rob Evans when it shoots at least 50 percent (16-2 in the past two seasons)... freshman Jason Braxton is averaging 7.3 points in the past seven games ...Donnell Knight was 10-of-10 from the free throw line last weekend and is 18-of-21 (.857) from the line his past 16 games...after fouling out 20 times in his first three seasons (89 games), Chad Prewitt has yet to foul out of a game this year.

REDHAGE PLAYING WELL: Junior Shawn Redhage had a season-high 13 points off the bench at California on Feb. 2 and has been solid off the bench recently. Redhage is averaging 20.6 minutes and 7.9 points in the past eight games and is shooting 28-of-49 (.571) from the floor in that time. He matched a season-high with 24 minutes vs. Washington State on Saturday.

THREE-POINT IMPROVEMENTS AT BOTH ENDS: ASU has made 67 three-pointers in 13 Pac-10 games. Last year, ASU made 61 during the whole Pac-10 season. The Sun Devils are shooting 35.1 percent in Pac-10 games from beyond the arc after making just 26.3 percent last year in the 18 league games last year. At the other end of the floor, ASU is holding Pac-10 opponents to just 28.9 percent (58-of-201). ASU was last in the league last season as opponents shot 37.6 percent (109-of-290).

OLD THREE-DOT DATA: ASU swept Washington State for the ninth time in its 24 Pac-10 seasons this year...ASU has now won 14 of the past 15 vs. Washington in Tempe...ASU has now outrebounded Washington by 16.5 in its past four games vs. the Huskies.
