Baseball Hammers Out 19 Hits in 11-7 Win at UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Junior right fielder Travis McAndrews went 5-for-5 while freshman reliever Brett Bannister threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings for the save Tuesday and the No. 6 USC Trojans defeated the host UC Riverside Highlanders, 11-7, in non-conference action at Riverside Sports Complex.

The Trojans (2-2) banged out a season-high 19 hits with McAndrews in the leadoff spot and junior third baseman Nick Mosich going 4-for-4 with two RBI. Left fielder Michael Morales made his first start of the season and keyed a three-run sixth inning with a two-run single.

The Highlanders (4-4) took the lead in the first with four runs off Trojans' starter Chad Clark. Clark did not finish the first, going only 2/3 of an inning and allowing four runs on three hits. Jordan Olson allowed three runs on five hits in 3 2/3 innings of work to record the win for the Trojans.

Bannister, the younger brother of teammate Brian, entered the game in the fifth and allowed a single before retiring the next nine straight batters. He retired the side in the ninth to end the game.

McAndrews reached base all six at-bats with five singles and a walk. He is batting .562 (9-for-16) on the season while Mosich leads the team with a .571 batting average (8-for-14) in four games. Mosich also has a team-high three doubles.

USC will host No. 25 Baylor this weekend at Dodger Stadium. Friday's (Feb. 15) game will start at 6 p.m. with a 1 p.m. start on Saturday (Feb. 16) and noon on Sunday (Feb. 17). All three games will be broadcast live on
