LAST YEAR AT THE UNLV TOURNAMENT: The Beavers went 4-1, downing Loyola Marymount (8-2), Central Michigan (5-1), Fordham (12-1 in 5 innings), Florida International (4-0), and losing to then-No. 25 Utah, 12-6.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS: OSU gets a rematch against BYU, which handed the Beavers their only loss of the season in the opener, 4-1. The Cougars, 3-1, are led by OF/1B Oli Keohohou, who is 6-for-10 wih two homeruns and five RBI. Among common opponents with OSU, BYU is 2-1, the scores follow (OSU's score in parentheses): The Cougars downed Southern Utah 10-1 (8-0) and Saint Mary's 11-4 (7-0), but lost to San Diego 2-1 (9-1).
SCOUTING THE JAYHAWKS: Kansas (3-2) is led by Christi Masser's .545 batting average, two homeruns and five RBI. The Jayhawks have played four teams ranked in the NFCA preaseason top 25, and have won two, defeating No. 8 Arizona State 3-2 and No. 17 SW Texas State 6-5.
SCOUTING THE RED RAIDERS: Texas Tech enters the weekend with a 3-7 mark and has lost its last five games by a combined score of 43-7. Outfielder Eva Harshman leads the team at the plate with a .419 average and five RBI.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON TIDE: No. 13 Alabama comes into the weekend on a five-game winning streak having outscored the opposition in that span 30-3. The Tide is 5-3 overall, having lost its first three games to No. 1 Arizona by a combined 32-8 before rebounding against Samford and Evansville twice, and Maryland. Pitcher Shelly Laird sports a 2.05 ERA and 3-1 record, while Ashley Courtney is 10-13 (.769) from the plate with seven RBI. Jackie McClain leads the squad with three homeruns. Alabama ousted OSU in last year's NCAA Regional by a count of 1-0 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
SCOUTING THE CORNHUSKERS: The only blemish on the No. 12 Huskers' record comes courtesy of No. 2 UCLA, which beat Nebraska 6-1. Nebraska is 4-1 overall, and is led by pitcher Leigh Ann Walker's 0.00 ERA in 21 innings pitched. She has given up 12 hits and struck out 23 batters while walking five. Nicole Trimboli leads the squad at the plate with a .400 average on 6-for-15 hitting.
