LAST YEAR AT THE LEADOFF CLASSIC: The Beavers went 3-1-1, dropping their first game 1-0 to No. 3 Oklahoma then winning three straight over No. 19 South Carolina (2-1, 8 inn.), San Diego State (5-2), and No. 8 Fresno State (3-1) before a scoreless tie with No. 13 DePaul.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES: Texas A&M comes into the game on an eight-game winning streak and a 10-3 record overall. A&M beat No. 10 Cal State-Fullerton 3-2 to start the current streak. The Aggies have shut out three straight opponents, and have given up just one run in their last six games. From the mound, Linda Wilhelmson has not given up an earned run all season in 23 2/3 innings for a 0.00 ERA. In 43 innings, Jessica Slataper sports a 1.47 ERA. Wilhelmson also leads the team at the plate with a .387 average.

SCOUTING THE IRISH: The Irish, at 3-2, enter the weekend ranked 14th in the NFCA preseason poll. Their most recent win was a 5-3 spanking of No. 25 South Florida. Freshman pitcher Carrie Wisen leads the staff with 22 2/3 innings and a 2.16 ERA. Offensively, junior third baseman Andrea Loman paces the squad with a .375 average on 6-for-16 hitting. She has the team's only homerun of the year.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES: Southern Miss, at 4-2, is led offensively by Heather Bell, who swings the bat for a .500 average with two homeruns. Pitcher Jessica Holaway sports a 2.00 ERA to lead the Eagles in 21 innings. Among oppents in common with OSU, USM beat McNeese State twice, 2-1 and 3-1. OSU won 4-3 on Feb. 8.

BEAVERS VS. THE FIELD: OSU has a combined 2-2 record against Notre Dame (1-0) and Southern Miss (1-2), and has not played Texas A&M before. Those records both came under current head coach Kirk Walker.
