Men's Golf Team Tied For Eighth In Hawaii

The UCLA men's golf team is tied for eighth place after the first round of the John A. Burns Invitational, hosted by the University of Hawaii at Leleihua Golf Course in Wahiawa, HI.

The Bruins posted a team score of seven-over par 295 and are tied with Hawaii-Hilo and Colorado State entering the second round. They trail seventh place Pacific by one shot and lead 11th place California by a stroke.

San Diego State leads the field after posting a first-round score of 274, 14-under par. New Mexico is second at one-under par 287, followed by Hawaii and Auburn at even par 288.

Individually, sophomore Steve Conway posted a one-over par 73 to lead the Bruins. He is tied for 24th place. Senior Parker McLachlin and freshmen Breene Murphy and John Poucher are all tied for 35th place at 74. Sophomore John Merrick is tied for 66th place after posting a score of 77.

San Diego State's John Lieber leads the field after recording a seven-under par score of 65. Auburn's Kevin Haefner is second with a 68 and Hawaii's Matthew Kodama is third at 69 along with Pacific's Matt Hansen.

Second round action conintues Thursday.
